What  Brings  tears  to  your  eyes?

Several years ago I was chairing a meeting of the Board of Discipleship at my former church.  God was blessing the church and we had run out of space for the large number of ‘Tweens that were involved in our church’s version of Life Studies.

We had a room in our Junior Department that was being used for storage—the church had a large Puppet Ministry called His Hands, and it took a lot of space to store the puppets, backdrops, and portable sound system.  It was suggested that we relocate the equipment to a large storage area above the church sanctuary. OH, NO!  Tension.  High drama.  Tears.  One of our ministry volunteers had worked in His Hands for many years and was appalled that we would consider such a thing.  She sobbed out these words, “When I think about God’s puppets in that dark area where there are bats and who knows what else, it breaks my heart!”

It took all of my self-control to gather my composure before I could answer.  “Yes, these are God’s puppets.  Yes, they have a value.  But Jesus didn’t die for the puppets.  If we have to choose between having puppets in that room that we paid for, or souls that Jesus died for, God would rather that we cry for the children than for the puppets.”

What is it that brings tears to your eyes?

The answer to that question will tell you a great deal about where you are in your spiritual journey!
